Why Men Are Bad Communicators… and How to Solve It

By on June 13, 2014

Today – I’d like to explain why men tend to be so poor at communication, and what you can do about it.

Be kind ladies… men aren’t that way on purpose.

Our left brain, that controls logic, and the right brain, that controls emotion, are connected by something called the Corpus Callosum. In the womb – men get Testosterone which eats away at the Corpus Callosum, disconnecting the logic from the emotion sides of the brain.

I’ve heard a woman say, “I always knew men were brain damaged…”

The reason men have this separation probably dates back to the age of the dinosaurs. If a man would bet overwhelmed by fear, he’d get killed. So he needed a way to disconnect the emotion side.

Unfortunately… that doesn’t help in relationships with women.

So… what can you do?

Woman… understand that men are this way. We have difficulty showing vulnerability because it feels dangerous. Never let ‘em see you sweat.

Men hide in a way, but we still feel emotions. In fact, it’s pretty easy to hurt a man’s feelings. But most men are trapped by their inability to express how they really feel. So they respond in two volumes… loud and off!

For you guys, it takes courage to let people know your emotions, of Mad, Sad, Glad, Fear, Shame.

Actually, mad… is easy… everyone gets it. But be willing to explain things like…

– You hurt my feelings;

– I’m a little overwhelmed… my dog died this weekend;

– It’s a little scary standing in front of you all today.

It takes guts for many guys to say things like this, but practicing will open huge doors to communication.

For you guys… try telling someone you appreciate them.

At work, say,
– I really enjoyed working with you on that project. You were so creative!

At home, say…
– I really love being with you!

Try this and you’ll be surprised at how differently people interact with you.
