Guest-Posting and Commenting on a Popular Blog to Attract People to Your Website
Table of Contents
Writing an article that gets posted on a popular blog website, or commenting on articles that are posted on well-trafficked blogs can be an effective way to expose large numbers of people to your products and ideas and ultimately, attract these people to your website.
If people find value in your comments and information, they may be inclined to follow a link back to your website or blog, where you’d have a better chance to engage them and ultimately, get them to buy your product or service.
Where some blogs may have millions of readers, getting your article or comment posted there could expose your ideas and products to thousands and even millions of potential clients.
What is a Blog
A blog is an article-posting website where a person or group will regularly post articles expressing their opinions on news, current events, sports, religion or political subjects for example, or on a narrower topic – like Harry Potter, microwave cooking or New Orleans Nightlife, or on a particular brand – like Nike or Wal-Mart, or on someone’s daily rantings or diary.
Most blogs include a comments section where readers can engage with other readers and with the author or blog’s creator.
With more than 156 million blogs in existence, they exist on just about every topic you could imagine.
Most popular blogs will post new articles posted daily, and sometimes several times a day… as news or inspiration breaks about the subject matter of the blog.
Many blog subscribers will also have access to an RSS feed where new articles are sent to them immediately when they are posted.

How to Get Published in a Blog
Top blogs can have an audience of thousands and even millions of dedicated subscribers, so getting your comment or article posted on a popular blog can be a valuable way to let a large number of people become aware of your product or ideas.
The main sources for finding top blogs are WordPress.com. Blogger.com (owned by Google) and Technorati.com, with Tumblr (owned by Yahoo) being a great source of microblogs (with short-messages).
Getting your article published in a blog can be easier than in a print magazine. If you can create an article that’s highly relevant to the blog’s audience, many popular blogs will accept your submission as a guest post, and will even provide a link back to your website, particularly in the bio section of your article.
If you have an article idea or subject you would like to submit to a blog,
- Contact the editor or publisher with your idea or article (their email or contact info is usually in their ABOUT US section or at the bottom of their articles). Make sure to let them know why you are qualified to provide this information.
- If interested, they will generally give you submission guidelines, particularly the number of words they require.
- Submit the article. If you will be quoting facts or statistics (which many love), make sure include links to source material for those assertions – hopefully a universally respected/accepted source and not something obscure (like Joe’s Blog on Extra-Terrestrial Sightings – unless that’s relevant to your article).
- They may ask you to make corrections or annotations (links to source material) and then to resubmit, where they may ultimately make additional changes, before they post it.
- Make sure your submission includes your contact information and/or a link to your website in the bio section.
Although it may take a bit of work, getting your article or comments posted on a popular blog could expose your ideas and your business to hundreds or perhaps even thousands of people who may otherwise not be aware of your existence.
If your website or web platform (place where they learn about your product or business) is then able to convert many of these new visitors to clients, this could be a powerful way to boost your business.
