Using Video-Sharing and Blog-Sharing Sites
to Attract People to Your Website

Videos and blog posts can help you attract viewers and readers to your website – directly, by inviting them, or – indirectly, by boosting your rankings in Google and the other search engines.
Here’s how.
First, optimize your video or blog post so it’s easy for the search engines to find.
Identify the one or two keywords you want it to rank high for in the search engines. Include that keyword in your title and description, and scattered throughout your video or blog post, particularly in the first few minutes or paragraphs (yes… YouTube can read the words in your videos). Don’t overdo it. Include the keyword often enough that would make sense in normal conversation, but not more.
Also include your keyword in your tags for your video or blog post.
Next, invite the people watching your video or reading your blog post, to come to your website.
Include a bookend at the end of the video or blog post that invites people to visit your site or a targeted web page, with an easy-to-remember URL that stays visible for enough time.
Then, in your description, invite people to visit your website or targeted web page, including a link (with the http:// at the beginning of the URL).
For YouTube videos, also include an annotation with a link to your website. Annotations are text boxes YouTube lets you overlay on top of your video. You choose when it appears and disappears in the video, its size, colors and position on the video.
Annotations let you easily create a link on your video to another YouTube video or to your YouTube channel with little effort. If you want a link on your video to your website or a specific web page, you will need to enable monetization. (For instructions on how to create an annotation to your website, click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojP8Coo2tEM)

Blog and video-hosting sites like YouTube are not shopping platforms. They aren’t set up to accept payments. That’s why your video and blog post become a step in the process rather than the entire selling process.
Therefore, the best use of your video or blog post in helping you generate income, is to use it to steer the person onto a web page designed specifically for selling, as described above.
Sharing Turns Your Video or Blog Post into a Web Magnet
Getting videos and blog articles posted to video-sharing and blog-sharing websites, complete with links back to your website, web page or a web platform (a site that features your product or business) can dramatically boost your rankings in the search engines for that web site or web page.
Video-sharing and blog-sharing websites are large sites where thousands (and in some cases, millions) of people post their videos and blogs.
So, if you are willing to create videos and/or blog posts (600-1,200 word articles posted on a blog site or a WordPress site), here’s a powerful way to boost your rankings in the search engines.
People are sometimes able to push the rankings of a specific web page to the first page of Google’s search listings in a matter of days or weeks, using this technique.
Here’s how to do it:
- Identify the keyword you want to rank for, hopefully something with fewer than 5 million competing pages in Google. (To find out how many competing pages there are, type the keyword in Google, click enter and look at the number below the search term you typed. For “cooking” it says, about 226,000,000 results – meaning you are competing with 226 million pages that have the word “cooking” on it).
- Create your video and/or blog post, scattering the keyword throughout the content, but not overdoing it.
- Post the video and/or blog post to the hosting sites (see site examples below), spacing the postings so they don’t all go up at the same time. Maybe you can post to a different hosting site every 1-2 days.
- In each post, add a link in the description and/or content to the page you want to rank high in the search engines.
- This is a tedious process, especially because you’ll have to set up accounts for each of the hosting services, log into each whenever you want to post a new video or blog post, and identify categories, tags and descriptions for each post. – but it works!
If this process seems tedious and you are willing to pay about $100-a-month, a service called Traffic Geyser (www.TrafficGeyser.com) somewhat automates the process. The initial setup is still tedious, where you’ll have to create a registration for each file-sharing site. But once done, the sign-in and posting process are must easier, faster and somewhat less tedious.

Although this can be a tedious process, posting videos and blog posts on numerous hosting sites with backlinks to a specific web page can be a very effective way to boost that page’s rankings on Google and the other key search engines.
